My 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 from time to time jerks and then the “Service Engine Soon” light comes on. But it is weird because the Engine light comes on and it may stay on for a couple of days or so and then it will go off and the car will stop jerking. And it is the same routine and I have been dealing with this issue for about a year in a half now. I took it to Firestone and they hooked it up to the diagnostic computer machine and I was told two transmission codes came up and that I need to take it to a transmission shop. Could anyone tell me what this problem may be or seems like?

Please could anyone let me know the if it is time to do a replacement and if so any rough estimate for the same.

Also I would like to know if it would be safe to drive for another 1 month or so since my service is due by Jan and I thought of clubbing both of these.
